Most laptop screens still use the old 16:9 aspect ratio but there has been an increasing number of companies embracing larger screen sizes over the past few years. While also experimenting with larger screen sizes in laptops from other manufacturers, Lenovo has taken a broader view. It has unveiled a new ultra wide screen laptop at CES this year. At CES 2019, Asus has introduced an ultra-wide display for laptops. It comes with two screens—one for typing out messages and one for viewing them. Lenovo claims its new ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 notebook uses an 18.4-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (21:9 aspect ratio) and supports 4K Ultra HD content. It Ultra wide screens (screens that are wider than 16:9) were once extremely uncommon, but they’re becoming increasingly common now. Toshiba attempted to make it a reality back in 2012. Its 21:9 screen promises an improved movie viewing experience and better multiÂtasking capabilities than its competitors’ laptops. Recently, Acer’s 2017 Predator X21 used an unusual curved screen design to claim superior gaming experience. Its ultra wide display has an impressive resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
Lenovo has released its latest laptop for business use – the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3rd Generation. It’s aimed at SMBs (Small Medium Businesses). A larger display means you can see more things at one time. However, having multiple windows open allows you to view them side by side. Microsoft has highlighted some key features that make using Windows 10 generally easier than previous iterations. As an example, the large screen size allows for larger applications and files than would be available if using a smaller device. With the help of Lenovo, Microsoft has added an additional screen to their laptop computers which lets them use two displays at once. This new feature from Lenovo is Lenovo has demonstrated several different ways to use its new display, including using it as an electronic notebook, a digital photo frame, and even a clock. You might be able to use the smaller screen to view a collection of photos while working in Photoshop, or you may be able to draw on it using the stylus stored inside the back panel.
A very long document could start on the upcoming clamshell’s primary display and flow onto the secondary one. You could also use the 8-inch screen to store oft-used app launchers. Additionally, Lenovo pointed to the screen as a way to mirror your smartphone. Again, this targets SMBs with a lot on their hands.
ThinkBook Plus Gen 3: What’s with the 8-inch screen?
Most laptop screens still use the older 16:9 aspect ratio, but there have been a growing number of companies that have embraced larger screen sizes over the last couple of years. Lenovo is no exception. The company previously showed off a 14-inch version of its Yoga Book 2 Pro tablet, and now it’s taking that idea and scaling it up to 15 inches. This isn’t just any 15-incher though — it’s a ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 laptop.
